What I have learned about the military culture and How I relate to Veterans
I recognized early into my embedded military career that Marines who were due to EAS in a matter of months, were not wholly prepared to transition back to civilian life. In my work as a suicide prevention subject matter expert, that the number of completed suicides for Veterans was increasing and a completed suicide occurred in less than one year from transitioning to civilian life. I understood that the transition process needed more resources and support for wellness and wellbeing after separating from the military. I understood that without this component of wellness and health, transition would become challenging and overwhelming, especially due to the long wait for mental health care service from the VA, and mental health of the veteran could decline. For some, the wait ended with their suicide.
I recognize that our Veterans have served on the front line, in theater, and in garrison. This service should be honored. I also recognize that some Veterans may require additional help to get restart their lives as a civilian.
As owner and founder of Wellness Consultants of Atlanta, LLC (WCOA), I have expanded our vision and mission to include our Veterans.
I understand that with Wellness Coaching, we can ease the transition. We can create hope, we endeavor to save lives.
